Assassination and Sadness in Haiti
Dear Friends,
As you have likely seen, Haiti's President, Jovenel Moise, was assassinated in his home last night. The First Lady, Martine, was also shot, and her condition is not currently clear. Our thoughts are always with Haiti, but this is especially true today. We send our prayers to the president's family, to the Haitian state, to the nation itself, to the capital, and to the countryside.
I've been in touch with our partners and friends in Petit Trou, and I've been listening to Haitian radio online all morning. People are scared, shocked, sad. From what I understand, Port au Prince is calm for the moment and people are praying that this doesn't lead to further violence.
We will keep you posted and of course will continue to stay in close touch with our family in Petit Trou. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly if you'd like to schedule a chat, or attempt to process this together.
Thank you as always for standing with Haiti.
