A Holistic Vision for Health
Access to healthcare is a serious challenge in Haiti, often with tragic consequences. Parents and families in rural communities travel great distances to facilities that are commonly under-supplied and understaffed.
We partner with local leaders in Petit Trou and the Haitian Ministry of Health (MSPP) to address this challenge at its root, strengthening access to quality healthcare and providing infrastructure and support that will make a difference in the long-term.
Our focused initiatives include:
We recently completed construction of a new community hospital and health center to replace the facility that was irreparably damaged in the August 2021 earthquake. Learn more about this project and see construction photos here.
Leveraging the natural connection between health and food security, Locally Haiti supports an innovative program providing agricultural training and resources to health workers and their communities. Learn more below:
Salary / stipend support for 40 community health workers. These workers provide front-line care, first aid, and support for community health initiatives including mobile vaccination and education campaigns.
Facilitating continuing education programs for health workers and clinic staff through a partnership with Colorado-based practitioners and institutions, as well as in-country experts.
Encouraging and facilitating better data collection, analysis, communication and learning at both the clinic and health worker level to strengthen the local system and make the best use of resources. We proudly partner with CU Anschutz and Denver University in these efforts.
