Stories from August 14th: Guilot and Genevieve

Guilot and Genevieve Tibert had been working at the same camp at St. Paul’s all week. On the morning of the earthquake, they were already at the school. Guilot had gone early to help Darline prepare for the day, and Genevieve was helping the children’s choir practice songs.

When the earthquake hit, Guilot was in the guest house. It was incredibly loud, and he could see and hear everything around him falling as he ran outside to safety. Genevieve frantically made her way outside as well, tearing her dress and losing her phone in the process. Once outside, she laid in the road and witnessed the houses around her fall.

Genevieve and Guilot’s home survived the earthquake (despite one cracked wall), but stress levels have been high. Guilot explains how loud noises now affect everyone in their community. He says that productivity has been low for many, due to stress and lack of sleep.

There was a lot of damage in surrounding areas too. Guilot shared that Tiby, a town in the mountains, had multiple deaths and injuries because of the falling rocks. Guilot shared that this earthquake has made already impossible situations even worse for families.
