Meet Jana Schleusner, Board Treasurer
Inspiring Change Through Educational Opportunities
Jana lives in a small community just south of Denver called Perry Park with her husband Shane and cat Oliver. This quiet beautiful community is full of amazing wildlife and wonderful hiking trails that compliments the outdoor lifestyle they so enjoy.
As a Certified Public Accountant, Jana began her career in public accounting auditing small businesses and not for profit organizations. This is how the spark of not for profit involvement was lit. She is currently the Director of Finance at Douglas County School District. This experience has enabled her to provide expertise in accounting and general business matters essential to the success of any organization.
Jana has always been a strong believer in giving back to the communities in which we live and has served on various boards and professional organizations since high school. The interest in Haiti specifically was actually secondary to becoming involved with the organization. The initial attraction was the way in which the organization worked with the people of Haiti. Her belief in the potential of empowering others and providing opportunities, instead of just money or supplies aligned with the Locally Haiti philosophy. Providing educational opportunities and teaching jobs skills is the long term answer in ending poverty and dependence. Jana first traveled to Petit Trou back in 2014 and is looking forward to her next visit!
While the Douglas County School District community couldn’t be more different than St. Paul’s school, the importance of educating youth is just as essential in both communities. Every parents dream is that their children will live a more prosperous life than their own and Jana believes education is the path. Therefore, education is Jana’s passion and believes it is the spring board to all the other programs now flourishing in Petit Trou. Seeing the light in the eye of a child learning something new is truly powerful.
Fun Fact: Jana’s favorite sport growing up was downhill skiing and she learned to ski before she could tie her shoes. She remembers learning how to tie her shoes at the base of the ski hill in Jackson Hole. Today her ideal day involves snow outside, a fireplace and a great historical fiction book.
