Updates from Petit Trou Community Hospital
Patient numbers at Petit Trou Community Hospital & Health Center have increased significantly since its official opening on February 17, 2025 - with some metrics up by as much as 140%! The first baby born in the hospital was welcomed on February 18, pictured top left with mom. We continue to collaborate with our partners at the Ministry of Health to refine long-range data collection efforts. Stay tuned for more updates to come!

Nurse Rose Laure is Head of Nursing. She was born and raised in Petit Trou and has been working at the health center for three years.

Nurse Laube Marthine, right, leads Community Health Initiatives. Serving at the local health clinic in Petit Trou since October 2012, Nurse Laube is responsible for coordinating meetings, vaccination campaigns, education and nutrition workshops, and general health activities and assemblies within the community. Agronomist and farmer Simon Bertrand manages landscaping and food security initiatives on the hospital campus. He lives in a town called Gran Ravine and has previously supported our girls’ empowerment program by contributing to gardening and educational initiatives. In addition to prioritizing thoughtful garden design for beauty and functionality, Simon is leading the development of phase two of a program that provides agricultural education and resources to our Community Health Workers. This program builds on the success of phase one, described here, which has reached more than 1,900 families over the past five years.

Port-au-Prince Update
The situation in Port-au-Prince shows no real signs of improvement, and thousands of families continue to relocate from the capital to rural parts of the country, including Petit Trou de Nippes. The elimination of USAID funding is being felt across the country, leading to the closure of many previously supported public health programs. Within this context, the community hospital and the continued progress that is occurring in Petit Trou, made possible with your generous support, is more important than ever.
