Petit Trou Community Hospital & Health Center - Construction Updates
October 29, 2024 - After a year of work construction is complete! Engineers and staff from the Ministry of Health have visited the site for final approval and we look forward to sharing details for the inauguration. Thank you to all who supported this project and tracked our progress here, and thank you to BCP Construction, Mayor Wilnor Pierre, and the local technicians, laborers, and professionals who made this happen!
October 10, 2024 - Continued progress and glad to announce that the hospital is very nearly finished! Interior finishes, installation of sinks and toilets, and painting of iron works and metal grills are complete. Countertops poured and finished. Final concrete work for entrance is complete. Solar installation is complete.
September 18, 2024 - Continued progress on interior finishes, installation of sinks and toilets, painting of iron works and metal grills, and pouring of countertops. Final concrete work for entrance is nearly complete. Preparation for solar installation has begun.
September 4, 2024 - Painting of iron works, including metal doors, window grills, and steel columns has begun. Digging for the manual medical incinerator building has also begun. Pouring of countertops has started in addition to pouring of the septic and soak pit slab. Exterior solar lights have been installed.
Aug 20, 2024 - Tile installation in residence is now completed, contractor to prep for tile installation for main building. Site work finishes ongoing with installation of exterior lighting. Electrical fixture installation continues, final work on gravel leveling for parking lots and pouring of concrete curbs ongoing. Exterior door installation has begun. Aug 7, 2024 - Painting of interior and exterior walls has continued, as has installation of security grills, windows, doors, and fans. The water tower is complete and fencing is nearly finished. Laying of tile has begun in the residence and administration buildings.
July 16, 2024 - Concrete for water tower has been poured with expected completion by the end of July. Preparation for final coat of paint on exterior buildings and the installation of security grills continues, as does site works such as soak pit excavations, septic tank installation, drainage pipe connections, and water cistern concrete finishes.
July 5, 2024 - Installation of security grills for windows is in progress, along with initial installation of electrical fixtures, beginning with ceiling fans. Foundation for the water tower has been poured and columns will be complete next week. Installation of drop ceilings continues for the main building. Soak pits, drainage, septic work continues as does concrete work at the entry gate.
June 21, 2024 - Installation of drop ceilings, windows, and door frames has begun. Work on soak pits and drainage connections to the septic system continues, as does preparation of parking areas and walkways.
June 13, 2024 - Continued placement of windows. Nearing completion of ironworks for security grills. Continued progress on septic and water tower construction.
June 2, 2024 - Window frame placement for all buildings is ongoing, the ironworks team is fabricating security grills for doors and windows. The contractor (BCP) continues progress with concrete and masonry works for septic tanks and foundation excavation for water tower structure.
May 20, 2024 - Roofing sheets installed on all buildings. Smooth plaster on the exterior of the main buildings is complete. Wall tile placement and primer for interior walls has begun on the residence building.
May 9, 2024 - Continued progress on roof decking. Roofing sheets placed on residence and administration buildings. Contractor has started smooth plaster for the main buildings. Exterior works such as the water cistern is ongoing and the excavation of the septic tank has begun
April 29, 2024 - Continued progress on roofing. Rafters complete on all structures and placement of treated plywood decking has begun. Floor slabs on the main building are currently being poured and the first level of exterior plaster has begun.
April 18, 2024 - Installation of roof rafters now complete on in-patient and emergency wards. Window assembly at 95 percent complete. Preparation of sidewalks and paths has progressed. Contractor is gearing up for concrete pouring of the sidewalks, vapor barrier and steel reinforcement has been installed.
April 11, 2024 - Installation of roof rafters has continued, working towards rafters for in-patient and emergency wards. Plastering and electrical work has continued and fabrication of windows and cabinetry has begun.
April 3, 2024 - Walls are complete and installation of the roof rafters for the main building has begun. Plastering on walls for the main building has commenced, as has electrical.
March 26, 2024 - Building walls are 98% complete and construction firm (BCP) is currently pouring roof beams for the main building. Roof rafters and steel roofing sheets have been installed on the outdoor education building and generator house. Placement of steel rafters has begun on residence building as well as guard and security houses.
March 19, 2024 - Construction of walls for residence building are complete and construction firm (BCP) has made significant progress on block works for the administrative building, emergency department, and in-patient wards. Steel works for the roof rafters are beginning.
March 8, 2024 - Construction of walls for the guard and security house are nearly complete. Construction of walls for the residence building, as well as the administrative and pharmacy section have begun as well. Steel frame and steel roof for the outdoor health education space is nearly complete.
February 27, 2024 - Work has begun on the exterior site features, such as curbs for roads, paths, and entryway, in addition to mid-flower planter section of the drive through. Steel reinforcement and preparation for the partition wall of the main building is ongoing.
February 16, 2024 - Construction firm (BCP) is moving forward with the completion of foundation walls. Preparation for partition walls prior to slab, pouring of the residence building, administrative building, and clinic area have begun.
February 5, 2024 - Concrete poured and footings complete. Work on block placement for the foundation walls of the main building, generator pad and education building has begun. Ministry of Health engineers visited the site and approved / celebrated progress.
January 29, 2024 - Structural reinforcement for footings installed in all trenches. Boundary wall and fencing works ongoing.
January 16, 2024 - Trenching excavation for main buildings is 97% complete. This week BCP will be placing the footing reinforcement, working on the guard house and fencing of the north east boundary line.
December 18, 2023 - Mapping of building locations is now complete. Foundation and trenching works have begun for all buildings.
December 6, 2023 - Compaction and backfill complete for main building. Excavation of the parking lot and driveways is nearly complete. Water well drilled.
November 27, 2023 - Final stages of backfill and compaction. Continued digging for fencing.
November 13, 2023 - Continued groundworks, site preparation, backfilling and compaction for main buildings. Began digging holes for fencing.
November 6, 2023 - Groundworks: site preparation, removal of vegetable soil, site leveling and compaction.
October 31, 2023 - BCP is on site & officially breaking ground on the community hospital and health center in Petit Trou!
October 20, 2023 - Soil study and land survey complete, and purchase of new land finalized! The mango tree shown below will be centered directly in front of the hospital. There will be ample space on site for agriculture, demonstration gardens, and food security & nutrition training.
October 16, 2023 - Msaada Architects, BCP Construction (selected construction firm), and community members gathered together on the land where the community hospital will be built. Neighbors are incredibly excited for this project, and Mayor Wilnor Pierre, Architect Euvodine Jean, and Patrick Desir spoke at the community meeting.
